Understanding Future’s Edge projects and missions

Future’s Edge members learn, earn, and build real-world experience by contributing to projects that solve meaningful problems for organisations, businesses, and communities.

This guide shows you the types of projects we take on, how they’re broken down into missions and tasks, and how you earn rewards for your contributions.

What types of projects does Future’s Edge deliver?

Section titled “What types of projects does Future’s Edge deliver?”

Future’s Edge takes on collaborative projects that combine emerging technology, human-centered design, and social impact. These projects create value for our partners while giving you the opportunity to build your skills, strengthen your portfolio, and earn financial rewards.

We build interactive web-based tools that help organisations work more efficiently and engage their communities more effectively. Recent examples include mission matchmakers for volunteering, youth ideas studios for participatory decision-making, and AI peer coaches for wellbeing and strengths discovery 1 2.

We help organisations adopt emerging technologies, redesign their processes, and engage their communities in new ways. This includes strategy development, user research, service design, and change management 3.

We design and build platforms that bring people together, enable collaboration, and amplify youth voices. These include governance portals, knowledge repositories, and collaborative storytelling environments 1 2.

We deliver workshops and training programs on topics like blockchain, AI, design thinking, digital skills, and decentralised governance—both for our members and for partner organisations 3.

Understanding mission types and progression

Section titled “Understanding mission types and progression”

Future’s Edge offers four types of missions, each designed to build different capabilities and serve different purposes in your learning journey 2 4.

Foundational experiences that every member should complete to build a broad skill base and confidence in emerging technology, social impact, and leadership. These missions require no special prerequisites and help you discover your strengths 2.

Examples:

  • Share knowledge by creating content for the KnowledgeBank
  • Onboard a new recruit to Future’s Edge
  • Complete digital skills fundamentals training
  • Participate in a governance proposal discussion

Typical rewards: Lower financial value ($50–$300), moderate trust score points, foundational skill proof progress

Designed to create value for local and global communities while building a range of applied skills. These missions involve real-world partners and produce tangible outcomes 2 3.

Examples:

  • Digital transformation projects for local businesses or NFPs (like the Youth Ideas Studio)
  • Volunteering with social enterprises and charities
  • Providing technology access and digital skills training for underserved communities

Typical rewards: Moderate to high financial value ($300–$2,000), high impact score points, portfolio-worthy accomplishments

Tailored to your specific strengths, interests, and career aspirations. These missions allow you to deepen expertise in particular domains once you’ve built foundational skills 2.

Examples:

  • Advanced AI/ML development for specific use cases
  • Strategic consulting on governance or business models
  • Complex UX research with specialized populations
  • Technical writing or documentation for open-source projects

Typical rewards: High financial value ($1,000–$5,000), specialized skill proof progress, professional portfolio pieces

Unlocked only after you’ve achieved higher trust scores and demonstrated mastery. These missions involve complex challenges, significant responsibility, and leadership opportunities 2 4.

Examples:

  • Lead a full project delivery team for a major client
  • Design and facilitate a multi-week training program
  • Serve on a strategic council advising Future’s Edge governance
  • Create new frameworks or methodologies for the organisation

Typical rewards: Very high financial value ($3,000–$10,000+), leadership gratitude points, governance privileges, emeritus recognition

Understanding how money flows from client projects to member rewards helps you see the ethical foundation of Future’s Edge economics 3 4.

When Future’s Edge completes a project like the Youth Ideas Studio:

Total project value: $45,000 (what Youthful Minds pays)

Distribution:

  • 70% to member earning pool: $31,500 distributed to contributing members via smart contracts based on completed tasks 3 4
  • 20% to Future’s Edge treasury: $9,000 to sustain operations, platform development, and community programs 3 4
  • 10% to Field Office fund: $4,500 allocated to supporting Field Office activities and community building 3 4

Each task within a mission has a predetermined value pool based on:

  • Estimated time and effort required
  • Specialization and skill level needed
  • Impact and importance to project success
  • Market rates for similar professional work

Payments are processed automatically via smart contracts when you submit proof of completion and receive peer approval 3 4.

For certain types of contributions—particularly software development, frameworks, and reusable content—you may receive ongoing royalties if your work generates future value 3 4.

Example:

If you build the “AI idea clustering engine” for the Youth Ideas Studio and Future’s Edge later licenses this component to three other clients:

  • You receive 40% of the licensing fee for each subsequent use
  • Payments continue as long as the component generates revenue
  • You maintain eligibility as long as you have a positive trust score

This royalty model rewards innovation and ensures long-term value recognition.

As you complete missions, earn rewards, and build your reputation, new opportunities progressively unlock 2 4.
